"Iran,
A Powerhouse Unveiled"
“Iran, A Powerhouse Unveiled” is a 90-minute
documentary which was produced by Artline Films, for Arte,
RTBF, Yle, and Swiss Television. Jean-Michel Vecchiet is its
director and Jean–Francois Colissimo writer and Researcher.
For the first time ever, this film will look back over 100
years of Iranian history to the veritable wellsprings of the
confrontation between Iran and the western powers.
From 1908 to 2008, from the discovery of oil reserves to the
nuclear crisis, we present a spectacular voyage to the heart
of a country, a people, its high points and lowlife, its
splendor and misery, its submissiveness and revolts; a
colorful fresco focusing on real-life stories, unveiling
archive images and authentic documents, and giving
eyewitnesses – Iranian men and women – a chance to speak; a
crisscrossing gaze, free of both prejudice and compromise:
how they see us, how we see them. The film will also explore
Shiism, a unique equation between the spiritual and the
temporal, a vector of national identity, and the mystique of
resistance and martyrdom.
This film is a narrative with a plot. To tell the story of
Iran, it focuses on the duel that, since 1908, has pitted
Teheran against, first London, then Washington. This duel is
more than just a ghost haunting the Iranian conscience. It
summarizes the entire 20th century. It crops up in every
major division of our era. It is at the heart of East/West,
Occidental/ Oriental and even Northern hemisphere/Southern
hemisphere relations. In telling the tale of Iran, it tells
the tale of the world, of our history.
